Cable
Cars San Francisco
Location: Various
Cable cars remain, after more than 125 years, one of San Francisco’s most beloved
attractions. There’s nothing more exciting than riding down one of the city’s famous
hills on a cable car, wondering - while it’s careening down the steep hill - whether
or not it will be able to stop at the bottom! This is truly a fascinating way to
see the city.
Every car is pulled along by an underground cable and operators have three braking
systems to ensure the safety of their passengers. Riders may sit inside and out
of the sun, or in one of the seats that’s situated towards the outside of the cars.
It’s also cool to “hang” on the outside of the car, for that ultimate wind-in-your-face
experience. (It’s not really safe to let your kids do this!) Of course, while this
unique form of transportation is fun for all to ride, it serves an important purpose
in San Francisco…that is, getting tourists and residents from one place to another.
The three routes on which the cars run will take you to all the most popular tourist
destinations as well as lots of other interesting places within the city.
