Lombard
Street San Francisco
Location: Leavenworth and Lombard Sts., San Francisco
Lombard Street has been dubbed “The Crookedest Street in America” and indeed it
is. Anyone who’s visiting San Francisco will surely want to take a ride down this
winding thoroughfare, enjoying not only the ride but also the view from the top.
Don’t be surprised if you find a line of cars awaiting their turn for this exciting
trip! While the ride is fun, these curves indeed serve a purpose.
If they weren’t here, the street would be too steep to traverse and cars would merely
roll down the incline. Not only is Lombard Street crooked, it’s also quite lovely.
This famous street is covered with bricks and lined with beautiful Victorian mansions,
so be sure to look to the sides as you’re making your way downhill. The street is
also awash with color during the springtime when the flowers are in bloom. While
it’s fun to take photos from the top of the hill, the best photograph of the street
itself should be taken when you get to the bottom.
