San Francisco Zoo has been a favorite attraction of city visitors since it opened in the late 1930s. What started with one California grizzly bear has blossomed into one of the country’s finest zoos and, thanks to recent renovations, the zoo continues to grow.

The zoo houses hundreds of species of animals in habitats resembling those found throughout the world. You’ll see the African Savanna and the Australian Walkabout, Penguin Island and a Prairie Dog Exhibit, just to name a few.

There’s also a children’s zoo, a family farm, a fascinating Lemur Forest, and a Koala Crossing. Kids can interact with some of the animals, ride the magnificent Dentzel Carousel, or climb aboard the Little Puffer train for a trip around the lovely zoo grounds.
