Union
Square San Francisco
Location: Post, Stockton, Geary, Powell, and Sutter Sts.,
San Francisco Union Square, designated a park in 1850, is one of San Francisco’s
major retail areas and also the city’s center for culture and the arts. Years ago,
this area was a grassy slope, but since renovations, it’s now a raised granite platform
that provides great views of the activity around the Square.
If you’re an avid shopper, this is where you’ll want to be. Even the kids will enjoy
shopping here as the stores are many and varied, offering a little something for
everyone, ranging from high-end fashions to clothes for the younger set to wonderful
book stores and much more. The square offers tourists an unmatched shopping experience.
The streets surrounding Union Square (Sutter, Post, and Geary) are full of art galleries,
touting works by world-famous artists as well as local up-and-comers.
This is also the site of San Francisco’s Theater District, so you can plan to take
in a play or musical before or after your shopping spree. There are plenty of restaurants
in the area as well, so it’s not hard to find a bite to eat or a cup of java.
