Palace of the Legion of Honor San Francisco
Location: 100 34th Ave., San Francisco
The Legion of Honor was built in 1924 to honor the 3,600
California soldiers who gave their lives during World War I. A smaller-size replica
of the 18th-century Palais de la Légion d’Honneur in Paris, it is considered one
of the most beautiful museums in San Francisco.
The beauty also extends to the surrounding areas as the
Legion is overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Golden Gate Bridge and all of San Francisco
in a most breathtaking setting at Lincoln Park. Its collections include works encompassing
4,000 years of art history. Works such as Rodin's Thinker, which sits in the Legion's
Court of Honor, are part of a larger collection that consist of European decorative
arts and paintings, Ancient art, and one of the largest collections of prints and
drawings in the country.
