Golden
Gate Park San Francisco
Location: Great Highway and Lincoln Ave., San Francisco
Golden Gate Park is one of the largest urban parks in
the world, even bigger than New York City’s famous Central Park. Wisely, it was
deeded as park area way back in 1870, with the thought that someday, San Franciscan’s
would feel crowded due to the quick growth occurring is this beautiful city after
the Gold Rush.
This park has just about everything for the visitor to
the City by the Bay. For recreation, there’s a lake for fly fishing and amateur
boaters, an archery area, lawn bowling, tennis, biking and skating, a 9-hole golf
course, and much more. You can head to the Ocean Beach section of the park to watch
the sea lions or do a little sunbathing (swimming here is discouraged due to the
riptides). Golden Gate Park is also home to a number of museums and gardens including
the California Academy of Sciences; Conservatory of Flowers; Garden of Shakespeare’s
Flowers; a Japanese Tea Garden; the M. H. de Young Museum showcasing American, African,
Oceanic, American Indian, New Guinea, Maori, Egyptian, and Filipino art; and the
San Francisco Botanical Garden.
