San
Francisco Ballet San Francisco
Location: 301 Van Ness Ave., San Francisco
The San Francisco Ballet dates its official beginnings
from 1933 when Adolph Bolm was engaged by Gaetano Merola to direct The San Francisco
Opera Ballet in the newly completed War Memorial Opera House on Van Ness Avenue
opposite San Francisco's City Hall. Since that time, the Ballet has become America’s
first professional ballet company.
San Francisco Ballet has enjoyed a long and rich tradition
of artistic “firsts” performing the first American productions of Swan Lake and
Nutcracker, as well as the first twentieth-century American Coppélia. In addition,
the San Francisco Ballet is one of the three largest ballet companies in the United
States.
Sugar Plum Parties: Immediately following select matinees
of the Nutcracker Suite, there are special parties in the Opera House Café, for
a special holiday treat. These parties offer children a chance to meet their favorite
Nutcracker characters while enjoying savory snacks, holiday music, dazzling magicians,
and more.
