Since 1911, San Francisco has nurtured this great America orchestra. The San Francisco Symphony is a world-class organization and an important cultural institution that has traditionally stood for classical music. The San Francisco Symphony is known for innovative, entertaining, and challenging programming, and represents many different things to different people.

Music Director Michael Tilson Thomas, a noted conductor and composer since the age of 19, is an international award-winner who has worked with such musical icons as Stravinsky, Copland, Heifetz and Bernstein. Under his leadership, many celebrated artists and conductors have graced the stage of this illustrious establishment meeting and surpassing San Franciscans‘ expectations of what their symphony should be.
